History

Picture of Leslie BarklambThe history of the Victorian Flute Guild is closely associated with the work & imagination of Leslie Barklamb (1905-1993).

Leslie Barklamb was one of Australia's finest musicians, who made an outstanding contribution to flute playing in this country throughout his long years of involvement at all levels of the music world. Through his individual style and personality he inspired a love of music in countless students, many of whom have gone on to become prominent orchestral players, soloists and teachers both in Australia and overseas. Apart from his immense knowledge of the flute and its music, he was well known for his unique method of communication, his gentlemanly manner and his great generosity. In 1969, he founded the Victorian Flute Guild - leading to the establishment of similar bodies throughout Australia.
